Book Design

For this project, I chose to create a 54-page illustrated gear guide based on a 100-day drawing project I had already completed, focusing on outdoor equipment across different activities like climbing, skiing, mountain biking, and camping. I gathered references from gear catalogs, independent outdoor books, and technical product manuals to balance clean, informative writing with hand-drawn visuals that fit my broader design aesthetic—functional, approachable, and outdoor-driven.

I pulled visual references from minimalist gear guides and outdoor magazines that emphasize clean layouts and technical illustrations. Typography references leaned toward modern, utilitarian typefaces that reflect the reliability of the gear featured. I decided to fully illustrate the book myself, keeping the work consistent with my previous projects and ensuring it stays aligned with my portfolio's hands-on, detailed style.

Sketches

I started by sketching layout ideas and illustration styles to match the tone of a clean, functional outdoor gear guide. I built several mood boards for visual references, typography, and color palette direction, pulling inspiration from minimalist outdoor publications.
